Call to Prayer (Adhan)

Adhan
Rules & Method of Adhan and Iqamah
925. It is Mustahab for man and woman to say Adhan and
Iqamah before offering daily obligatory prayers, but for
other Mustahab or obligatory prayers, they are not
prescribed. But before prayers of Eid ul Fitr and Eid
ul Adha, it is Mustahab to say "As-Salah" three
times, provided that the prayers are going to be
offered in congregation.
926. It is recommended that Adhan be pronounced in
the right ear of the child, and Iqamah in its left
ear, on the day it is born or before the umbilical
cord is cast off.

The Correct Azaan
If you pray by yourself, an Azaan is not needed. The
Azaan is usually observed when a group of people are
ready to observe the prayer. One person stands up
and utters the Azaan words, or chants them as
follows:

ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺃﻛﺒﺮ
Allaahu Akbar (2x)
"Allah is the greatest"
ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺃﻛﺒﺮ
Allaahu Akbar (2x)
"Allah is the greatest"
ﺃﺷﻬﺪ ﺃﻥ ﻻ ﺇﻟﻪ ﺇﻻ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ
Ashhadu allaa illaaaha illallaah
(connecting as “il-lal-laah”)
"I bear witness that there none worthy
of worship except God"
ﺃﺷﻬﺪ ﺃﻥ ﻻ ﺇﻟﻪ ﺇﻻ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ
Ashhadu allaa illaaaha illallaah
(connecting as “il-lal-laah”)
"I bear witness that there none worthy
of worship except God"
ﺃﺷﻬﺪ ﺃﻥ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ
Ash Hadu anna Muhamadan rasuulullah
"I bear witness that Muhammad is the
Messenger of God"

Dua
What to Recite During Adhan (Call to
Prayer)
While listening to the adhan, Muslims repeat the
same words silently, except when the muezzin
says:" ﺣﻲ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﺼﻼﺓ ﺃﻭ ﺣﻲ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻔﻼﺡ " (ḥayya
ʿala ṣ-ṣalāh or ḥayya ʿala l-falāḥ ) [15] they silently
say:" ﻻ ﺣﻮﻻ ﻭ ﻻ ﻗﻮﺓ ﺇﻻ ﺑﺎﻟﻠﻪ " ( lā hawla wa lā
quwata illā billāh ) (there is no strength or power
except from God). [16]
What to Recite after Adhan
The following dua (supplications) should be
recited:
Immediately after the Adhan recite
Wa 'anaa 'ash-hadu 'an laa 'ilaaha 'illallaahu
wahdahu laa shareeka lahu wa 'anna Muhammadan
'abduhu wa Rasooluhu, radheetu billaahi Rabban,

2. Then invoke blessings on our beloved Prophet
Muhammad ( ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ ) thus:

Allahumma Baarik alaa Muhammadin wa alaa aali

alaa aali Ibraaheema innaka Hameedun Majeed
[18]
3. Then ask waseelah for the Prophet ( ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ
ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ ) thus:
ﺍﻟﻠﻬﻢ ﺭﺏ ﻫﺬﻩ ﺍﻟﺪﻋﻮﺓ ﺍﻟﺘﺎﻣﺔ ﻭﺍﻟﺼﻼﺓ ﺍﻟﻘﺎﺋﻤﺔ ﺁﺕ ﻣﺤﻤﺪﺍ
ﺍﻟﻮﺳﻴﻠﺔ ﻭﺍﻟﻔﻀﻴﻠﺔ ﻭﺍﺑﻌﺜﻪ ﺍﻟﻤﻘﺎﻡ ﺍﻟﻤﺤﻤﻮﺩ ﺍﻟﺬﻱ ﻭﻋﺪﺗﻪ

wa-s-Salati- l-qa’imah, ati Muhammadan il-
wasilata wa-l-fadilah wa-b‘ath-hu maqamam
mahmudan illadhi wa‘adtah [19]
4. Make dua to ALLAH in between the adhan and
iqamaah
Finally, you can ask Allah anything for yourself
and ask the grace of Allah because your
supplication will be answered this time.
Muhammad said: "Repeat the words of the
Mo'athen and when you finish, ask ALLAH what
you want and you will get it"

Reward of those who call to Solat :

– It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be
pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace
and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “If the people
knew what there is in the call to prayer and the first row,
and they had no other way but drawing lots, then they
would draw lots.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 590; Muslim,
437.

The meaning of this hadeeth is that if the people knew
what there is of great and abundant reward in the call to
prayer and the first row, and they could not find any way
to do the adhaan and determine who would stand in the
front row except by drawing lots, then they would do that;
they would draw lots in order to attain its virtue.
- Narrated ‘Abdul Rahman: Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri told my
father, “I see you liking sheep and the wilderness.
So whenever you are with your sheep or in the
wilderness and you want to pronounce Adhan for the
prayer raise your voice in doing so, for whoever
hears the Adhan, whether a human being, a jinn or
any other creature, will be a witness for you on the
Day of Resurrection.” Abu Said added, “I heard it
(this narration) from Allah’s Apostle.” Bukhari
1:11:583
- 41:33 (Y. Ali) Who is better in speech than one who
calls (men) to Allah, works righteousness, and says,
“I am of those who bow in Islam”?
