When to Perform Ghusl (Ritual Bath)

WHAT MAKES GHUSL COMPULSORY? 

Before we dive into those things that makes it compulsory, we need to know the differences between Maniyy (sperm), Mathy (pre-seminal fluid) and Wady.

𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘆𝘆 (𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺) is a thick white fluid emitted by the male or female as the result of sexual ejaculation. Some scholars define Maniyy as the thick spurting water discharge through orgasm. It emission usually brings a kind of electricity movement in the body. 

𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 (𝗽𝗿𝗲-𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗶𝗱) is a thin white sticky fluid which is discharged due to sexual stimulation, e.g. thinking about sexual acts, or kissing or the like. One is usually unaware of exactly when it is discharged. It emits from both the male and female. Muslim scholars unanimously agree that Mathy is impure.

𝗪𝗮𝗱𝘆 is a thick white fluid that comes after urinating. It is also considered impure.

Ghusl (complete bath) becomes Compulsory in the following conditions:

a) When an actual intercourse takes place (even if

no discharge occurs).

b) When Al-Maniyy (Sperm) is discharged owing to stimulation (whether actual or imagined) while

asleep or awake. 

c) When wet dream occurs. 

If someone wakes up and finds some sperm moistness on him or on his clothes he should perform Ghusl.

d) When a woman comes out of her regular menstrual cycle.

e) When the normal flow of blood ceases from the womb after giving birth.

GHUSL IS NOT OBLIGATORY IN THE FOLLOWING TWO CONDITIONS:

a) If mathy or wady is discharge from private part. 

In this case, Ghusl is not compulsory. One only need to clean the private part and clean the part it touched on cloth with water and then perform another wudoo. 

b) Ghusl or ritual bath is not compulsory when Al-Maniyy (sperm) is discharged without desire due to a medical condition, or carrying a heavy load or cold.  

 

GHUSL (COMPLETE BATH) is SUNNAH AND/OR 

RECOMMENDED IN THE FOLLOWING OCCASIONS:

a) On Fridays.

b) On Eid days.

c) After giving Ghusl to the dead.

d) Before putting on the Ihram.

e) Before entering Makkah.

f) Before entering Madina.

g) Before commencing the stay of Arafah (during Hajj)
