The dangerous psychological effects of Pornography

Recent studies confirm that porno scenes have destructive consequences

on human's psychological health also it has bad effects on people's

social status,

Let us read …

Debate over the issue of pornography often starts with the assumption

that it is harmful. In fact the US Attorney General's Commission on

Pornography, the Surgeon General's workshop on Pornography, Public

Health and many academic researchesdetermined that pornography is

harmful.

Sex issues are in chatting rooms

In a new study, American researchers believe that growing numbers of

married people are turning to internet chat rooms for sexual thrills.

Most spouses who got involved with the opposite sex over the internet

did not think they were doing anything wrong, said the report by a

University of Florida researcher. But partners felt betrayed even

though in most cases no physical contact had taken place.

"The internet will soon become the most common form of infidelity, if

it isn't already," said Beatriz Mileham, from the University of

Florida, who carried out the new study.

According to counseling groups in the US, Chat rooms are today the

fastest rising cause of relationship breakdowns.

"The problem would get worse as the number of people online continued

to rise" said MsMileham.

"All I have to do is turn on my computer and I have thousands of women

to choose from," said one of the men questioned for the study.

"It can't get any easier than that." He added

Researchers found that most people ventured into the chat rooms

because of boredom, a partner's lack of sexual interest, or a desire

for variety and fun.

The study found that what often started out as just friendly chat

turned into something much more serious.

"We are hearing from therapists around the country reporting online

sexual activity to be a major cause of marital problems," said Al

Cooper, author of the book, Sex and the Internet: A Guidebook for

Clinicians.

"We need to better understand the contributing factors if we are going

to be able to warn people about the slippery slope that starts with

online flirting and too often ends in divorce. "Added AL cooper.

Romantic Films

Watching romantic comedies can spoil our love life, a study by a

university in Edinburgh has claimed.

Rom-coms have been blamed by relationship experts at Heriot Watt

University for promoting unrealistic expectations when it comes to

love.

Many held the view if someone is meant to be with you, and then they

should know what you want without you telling them.

Psychologists at the family and personal relationships laboratory at

the university studied 40 top box office hits between 1995 and 2005,

and identified common themes which they believed were unrealistic.

The university's Dr Bjarne Holmes said: "Marriage counselors often see

couples who believe that sex should always be perfect, and if someone

is meant to be with you then they will know what you want without you

needing to communicate it."

"We now have some emerging evidence that suggests popular media play a

role in perpetuating these ideas in people's minds." He added.

Also he says: "The problem is that while most of us know that the idea

of a perfect relationship is unrealistic, some of us are still more

influenced by media portrayals than we realize."

There are many evidences suggeststhat popular media play a role in

perpetuating wrong ideas in people's minds

Kimberly Johnson, who also worked on the study, said: "Films do

capture the excitement of new relationships but they also wrongly

suggest that trust and committed love exist from the moment people

meet, whereas these are qualities that normally take years to

develop".

Pornography war and teenagers

The Internet and cable television have ushered in an age of

unprecedented access to hard-core pornographic images, and teenagers

are one of the many victims. Numerous studies have pointed to the

serious harm of pornography on teenager as it has a severe negative

effect on them.

In 1999, two researchers (Benedek and Brown) noted several negative

effects of pornography on young people. These included modeling and

imitation of inappropriate behaviors; unhealthy interference with

normal sexual development; emotional side effects (including

nightmares and residual feelings of shame, guilt, anxiety, and

confusion); stimulation of premature sexual activity; and the

development of misleading and potentially harmful attitudes toward

sex.

They believe that Pornography can create a powerful biochemical "rush"

in the user. When a teenager is subjected to an arousing image, the

adrenal gland secretes epinephrine into the bloodstream, where it

proceeds to the brain and locks the image in. Once this has occurred,

the simple thought of the image can trigger a feeling of arousal.

When a teenager is subjected to an arousing image, the adrenal gland

secretes epinephrine into the bloodstream, where it proceeds to the

brain and locks the image in.

Many adults can still vividly recall the first pornographic image to

which they were exposed as a child or teenager. Other body chemicals,

such as serotonin, adrenaline, endorphins, and dopamine also are at

play, creating a euphoric state in the user. Teens who experience this

biochemical thrill will, not surprisingly, want to experience it

again.

Pornography and depression

An Australian study of American and Australian men found that 27% of

internet sex fiends suffer from depression, 30% from anxiety, and 35%

from stress.

Pornography leads people to be depressed

In ameeting presentedin Australia finds a link between clinical

depression and an online sex life. 1,325 men from the US and Australia

were surveyed about their Internet sex habits, which might include

trolling for porn, participating in online chats, or doing things with

webcams. They were also asked questions designed to elucidate the

respondents' state of mental health with regards to depression.

A significant percentage (27 percent) of those surveyed displayed

moderate to severe depression, with similar numbers suffering from

anxiety (30 percent) and stress (35 percent). Marcus Squirrell, a PhD

student at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia,

and the author of the study, found a correlation between the severity

of depression and the amount of time spent engaged in online sexual

activity.

Pornography and children

Today, Children are exposed to sexual material on television at

earlier ages. Even television shows, supposedly for children, make

references to sex. The references may seem harmless to an adult, but a

child does not understand what is on television is not real (depending

on their age). Even if they do, they may think that behavior is

appropriate even for them.

Parents need to take caution. Make sure that computers, DVD players,

and televisions have parental controls to protect children from seeing

something they should not.

A 2009 study showed, that "the fourth most sought search term among"

children seven and under, was "porn." Seven and under, searching for

network sites and porn!

The study, written in a report by Brittany Glynn ( BreakingFreeBlog,

"The Unfiltered Truth: Children Search for Pornography From an Early

Age," 2010), indicates that young girls feel "pressured" to have

"waxings" and "surgeries" so they look better naked. Boys "desire" to

do what they see featured in pornography (keep in mind these are

children who are as young as seven).

A more recent study, reported October 6, 2010, shows that 11-year-old

boys are being exposed to pornography, and think they have to do what

they see in the images in order to get "aroused" (Professor Dines,

online article "Increasingly Violent Porn 'Hijacking' our Sexuality,"

abc.net.au, October 6, 2010).

In another study of six hundred American males and females of junior

high school age and above, researcher Dr. Jennings Bryant, head of the

radio-television school of communication at the University of Houston

found that 91 percent of the males and 82 percent of the females

admitted having been exposed to X-rated, hard-core pornography. Over

66 percent of the males and 40 percent of the females reported wanting

to try out some of the sexual behaviors they had witnessed. And among

high schoolers, 31 percent of the males and 18 percent of the females

admitted actually doing some of the things they had seen in the

pornography within a few days after exposure.

Exposure to Pornography Threatens to Make ChildrenVictims of Sexual Violence

Also he added that exposure to so-called "soft" pornography (that

which is found on the covers of magazines in many stores) has greater

effects than most people realize. He states: "We're finding proof that

this (less violent) stuff is doing harm, and something has to be done

about it."

Researchers found that Children often imitate what they've seen, read,

or heard. Studies suggest that exposure to pornography can prompt kids

to act out sexually against younger, smaller, and more vulnerable

children. Experts in the field of childhood sexual abuse report that

any premature sexual activity in children always suggests two possible

stimulants: experience and exposure. This means that the sexually

deviant child may have been molested or simply exposed to sexuality

through pornography.

Porn is the theoryand rape is the practice

The Campaign against Pornography and Censorship (CPC) who asserted

that pornography should be "eliminated through correct information,

education, persuasion, legislation and lawful direct action on the

grounds that it harms women", to those who oppose the right of the

state to interfere in the bedroom or determine what you can put on

your DVD player.

The CPC's view of pornography was summarized by its policy statement:

"We believe that pornography is the most extreme portrayal of women as

less than human and less than equal. . . We believe therefore that

pornography is propaganda against women which perpetuates sexism, sex

discrimination and sexual violence."

The theory of the North American radical feminist Andrea Dworkin based

on the previous thought. She argued that pornography is the key means

for the perpetuation of male power, of the oppression of all women by

all men.

She claimed that pornography is not merely the depiction of violence

against women, it is violence against women.

Andrea Rita Dworkin was an American radical feminist and writer best

known for her criticism of pornography, which she argued was linked to

rape and other forms of violence against women.

Andrea claim that most porn is about the raping, mutilating and even

murder of women. From this they conclude that pornography is a direct

incitement to men to perform such atrocities against women -"'porn is

the theory, rape the practice", as Andrea's slogan.

Many people believe that pornography reduces raping, but we believe

that more future researches will prove that all of these claims are

totally wrong.

Raise of pornography

Western observers believe that Porn parodies are getting bigger,

harder and longer, with no sign of stopping. Adult movie studios are

currently obsessed with doing the dirty version of every Hollywood

blockbuster that hits the big screen.

The latest figures concerning the pornography industry illustrate that:

• The business has grown to a $97 billion business worldwide; 13

billion is in the United States.

• Internet pornography in the United States is a $3 billion industry

• Every second, $3,075.64 is being spent on pornography, 28,258

Internet viewers are viewing pornography, 372 Internet users are

typing adult search terms into search engines, and every 39 minutes, a

new pornographic video is made in the United States. (Internet Filter

Review, 2006)

• Seven out of 10 youth have accidentally come across pornography online.

• Nearly 80% of unwanted exposure to pornography is taking place in

the home (79% occurs in the home; 9% occurs at school; 7%

other/unknown; 5% friend's home).

• Kids experienced unwanted exposure to sexual material via:

1 40% link came up as a result of an innocent word search.

2 17% clicked on a link in another site

3 14% pop-up

4 13% other

5 12% misspelled web address

6 4% don't know

Latest statistics illustrate that Men admitting to accessing

pornography at work is about 20% of work force and the US adults who

regularly visit Internet pornography websites are about 40

millionadult, also Christians who said pornography is a major problem

in the home is 47%

In the October 2010 issue of the American Family Association Journal,

Rusty Benson presents an article entitled, "The Forgotten Front: Why

Few are willing to Fight this Battle." that contains the following

figures:

The problem is not limited to men, women are also facing the same

issue as the statistics say that: 13% of Women admit to accessing

pornography at work and 70% of women keep their cyber activities

secret.

Also they found that 1 of 3 visitors to all adult web sites are women

and that 9.4 million women access adult web sites each month.

Islam and pornography

Allah Almighty wanted through this religion not to let people to lose

their way and not to waste their valuable time that to be in the right

way by not to looking to other's private partsand ordered men not to

look at women with libido.

Also He Almighty ordered us to practice the sexual relations only

between wives and husbands as it is the only legitimate way between

man and woman and to practice this relation only through the natural

way (Genitals).

Let us go through the following verses:

Allah ordered men not to look to forbidden things by saying: (Tell the

believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things),

and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.). That

is purer for them. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what they do.){Sûrat

An-Nûr-(The Light)- verse30 } and in the next verse Allah Almighty

speaks to women by saying: (And tell the believing women to lower

their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their

private parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their

adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for

necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress

like veil, gloves, head-cover, apron, etc.),).){Sûrat An-Nûr-(The

Light)- verse31}.

Here, we see how Allah almighty puts us on the right way to prevent us

from the psychological effects of pornography becauseHe Almighty wants

to purify us which is against what the followers of the Satan wants,

He Almighty says: (Allah wishes to accept your repentance, but those

who follow their lusts, wish that you (believers) should deviate

tremendously away from the Right Path.){Sûrat An-Nisâ'-Sûrat

An-Nisâ'-verse27}.

Western societies and experts are calling people to

avoidpornography, inmany verses in the Qur'an we can find that meaning

but the difference is that isa Divine order 1400 years ago and these

western calls are launched just couple of years ago, Allah says: (And

come not near to the unlawful sexual intercourse. Verily, it is a

Fahishah [i.e. anything that transgresses its limits (a great sin)],

and an evil way (that leads one to Hell unless Allah forgives

him){Sûrat Al-Isrâ'-(The Journey by Night- verse 32}.

Also He Almighty says: (Say (O Muhammad ): "Come, I will recite what

your Lord has prohibited you from: Join not anything in worship with

Him; be good and dutiful to your parents; kill not your children

because of poverty - We provide sustenance for you and for them; come

not near to Al-Fawahish (shameful sins, illegal sexual intercourse,

etc.) whether committed openly or secretly, and kill not anyone whom

Allah has forbidden, except for a just cause (according to Islamic

law). This He has commanded you that you may understand.){Sûrat

Al-An'âm-The Cattle –verse 151}

Also everyone must know that Allah Almighty is merciful and the

forgiver of all sins, He says: (Say: "O 'Ibadi (My slaves) who have

transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)!

Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins.

Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.){Sûrat Az-Zumar-(The Groups

–verse 53}.

At the end we should be proud by this great religion that wants us to

be happy in this life and in the hereafter as He Almighty praises the

believers who say: (Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good

and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment

of the Fire!){Sûrat Al-Baqarah - The Cow -verse201} also He Almighty

says about the situation of believers in this life and in the

hereafter: (No doubt! Verily, the Auliya' of Allah [i.e. those who

believe in the Oneness of Allah and fear Allah much (abstain from all

kinds of sins and evil deeds which he has forbidden), and love Allah

much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)], no fear

shall come upon them nor shall they grieve *Those who believed (in the

Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and used to fear Allah much

(by abstaining from evil deeds and sins and by doing righteous

deeds)*For them are glad tidings, in the life of the present world,

and in the Hereafter. No change can there be in the Words of Allah,

this is indeed the supreme success.){Sûrat Yûnus-Jonah –verse62-64}
